Hidup Persib! Persib is one of the local football clubs in Bandung. It has been known for many years. Several times it won the football competition in Indonesia. And it also endured the rough times for a quite long time. No victory only some lost. Recently it started to awake from its long sleep. Now the players are not only from West Java but also from other countries and cities.
I have never gone to the football stadium all my life. But that day was a special day. My friend told me that Persib was going to do the friendly match again Ulsan Hyundai, one of the Korean football clubs. I have heard the story about the supporters. It’s kind of creepy for me to come. But since it’s going to play against one of the Korean football clubs, I dared myself to come. We came there to see the Korean players. Actually, we had a geeky idea to show up there wearing Hanbok. Somehow the idea was canceled seeing the situation. The supporters are all blue and can you imagine if we show up there using Korean attire and scream out to support the Korean team? No need to answer that.
The weather was very cloudy. It rained sooner as the game started. Luckily it wasn’t that huge. But if it’s raining there, no need to worry because there is some plastic seller just in case you forget to bring your umbrella with you. It’s very creepy to be there. At that time there’s a fight between supporters but it didn’t get worse since there’s cop there. Somehow the supporters still got mad because of the referee’s decision. They thought the referee was making some mistakes that disadvantaging Persib. 2 goals were canceled. I was so afraid seeing the rage of the supporters. Oh, before you enter the stadium, a police will check your bag. The police will ask whether you bring bottled mineral water or any dangerous things. My bag wasn’t check. I guess he thought a scarf woman like me won’t bring such things. And besides I told them that I only brought my cellular phone and purse. It was true.
The game ended in series, 2-2. I came out trying to get close to the Korean players. Yet, they were well protected due to the anger of the supporters. I was so desperate. But Nur, my friend, came out with an idea. She asked me to write something in Hangul (Korean alphabet) then later when the bus came out I just needed to raise it up so they could see it. It worked well. One of the officials and some of the players see my writing. They smiled and some pointed at my writing. I only wrote “잘 했어요”. I guess it would be much more surprising for them if we showed up in Hanbok.
Anyhow, it’s one of the memorable days for me. It’s my first experience entering a football stadium, seeing the hectic and the passion and the loyalty of the supporters. Trying some thing new is okay once in a while.
